We aren’t afraid to say it: We have always had beef with Cuba. But you can’t deny the great things they have been doing to help with the Ebola epidemic throughout the world. With tensions high and seemingly no foreseeable end to the Ebola problem, Cuba has gone to greater lengths than most other nations to send certified health care professionals to aid in the Ebola efforts in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. Many people complain and criticize that most nations aren’t doing anything to help in the effort, and the United States is not exempt from this criticism either.

Cuba has even invited the US to join  the effort and work with them to fight the Ebola plight. Whether the invitation was made as a jab at the US, or whether it was made as a sincere invitation to restore balance and order to suffering nations, Cuba’s extended hand should be quickly grabbed by US authorities who haven’t provided any help.

It’s no secret that, since the late 1950’s, relations between the US and Cuba have been less than ideal. As a matter of fact, both parties are more than happy to talk about how much they hate the other, and it will be interesting to see how the United States will react to Cuba’s call to action. Many people even wonder if the US decision on the matter could be the first step in a direction that will lead the US and Cuba back to a time when international relations were easier. Not a chance in my opinion, but if nothing else, it is an opportunity for us to forget our differences and grudges for a time and focus our efforts on something bigger.
