Taijiquan (or Thai Chi Quan) is an internal (based on soft techniques)  Chinese martial art which became well-known in contemporary western world especially thanks to its features of gymnastics, preventive medicine and health benefits .

By 1000 B.C., in ancient China were studied and trained physical, mental and respiratory exercises in order to prevent and treat some illnesses, to keep good health and to help along longevity. Those techniques were generally known as Qi gong, were studied in Buddhist and Taoist circles and mixed with ancient styles of Kung-Fu and many contents of the 5 elements theories, gave life to Taijiquan.

Above all, five principles of the 5 elements theory emerge: 1) Water fluency as the essence of every movement. 2) The wood as the strenght and principle of the movement, from the inside to the outside, capable to break everything. 3) The fire when a strike hit. 4) The earth, which is in a stable and firm position 5) The metal, in the weight of the body.
